Tip #1. Know Your Keywords

If you're unfamiliar or confused with the term 'keywords,' here's how I like to think about it - keywords are just words and phrases that people are likely to search on Google when looking for information related to what you offer.

For a hypnotherapy website, this could include words like "hypnotherapist," "hypnosis," and "therapy," as well as specific areas of focus like "anxiety" or "weight loss."

It could also include multiple-word phrases like "hypnosis for anxiety" or "can hypnosis help with anxiety?". These are called 'long-tail keywords' and are more specific and targeted.

  • Note: Phrases that use "near me" (like "hypnosis near me") will show websites and businesses based on the location of the person searching. If you want to show up for these local keywords, be sure to check out Tip #7.

To attract more hypnotherapy clients online, you want to start by optimizing your website for keywords relevant to your business.

Step 1: Research your keywords

I know, research... ick. But by doing a little keyword research, you can start to identify the terms and phrases that your potential clients are searching for.

Start by brainstorming a list of keywords that are relevant to your hypnotherapy services.

Once you have a list, use keyword research tools like Google Keyword Planner or SEMrush to determine their search volume and competition level.

  • 'Search volume' is going to show you how many times that particular keyword is searched for in a month.

  • 'Competition level' is going to show you how tough it will be to rank for that keyword, based on how much content is already out there fighting for rankings.

Focus on long-tail keywords that are more specific and have lower competition. These keywords may have lower search volume but are more likely to attract highly targeted traffic.

Step 2: Season your website

With your chosen keywords in hand, it's time to do some work on your website's content. Think about it like cooking a nice meal. Your website is the finished meal and your keywords are all the spices and seasonings you used to make it taste so delicious.

You can season your website by incorporating these keywords naturally into your page titles, headings, and throughout the text on your different web pages.

  • Note: Be careful not to overstuff your content with keywords as this can negatively impact user experience and search engine rankings.

In addition to optimizing the visible content on your website, pay attention to the meta tags of your pages and pictures.

  • 'Meta Tags' are titles and descriptions that provide concise summaries of each page's content to the search engines. Include relevant keywords in these meta tags while ensuring they accurately represent the page's content.

Remember that optimization is an ongoing process, but by optimizing your website for relevant keywords, you increase its visibility in search engine results and attract more potential clients over time.

Tip #2. Provide Value With High-Quality Content

It's important to acknowledge that Google and Bing and Yahoo don't owe it to us to show our websites in their search engine results. So that means we have to understand why they show the results they do show, and then play by their rules if we want a chance at winning the game.

I'll make it easy for you - the name of the game is content. And not just any content, high-quality content that provides value to the user.

Think about it, Google wants the user to have a good experience so that they come back next time and use Google again. If the user types in "hypnosis for anxiety" and Google serves up results with websites about basket weaving and shoe cleaning, that would be a very bad user experience.

Gain More Authority

One of the ways Google decides which websites to show is by calculating a website's authority score based on how much content it has on a given topic. The more deeply a subject or topic is covered in the website's content, the more authority that website gains.

Websites with high authority rank higher, duh. So, how do you increase your authority?

You can improve your website authority by regularly publishing high-quality, informative content. Provide valuable information to your target audience and answer their questions, and you will increase your authority in Lord Google's eyes, thus increasing the flow of organic traffic to your website over time.

One of the most effective ways to create high-quality content is by regularly publishing blog posts (like this one!), articles, and guides.

These pieces should be well-researched and provide valuable insights or tips related to hypnotherapy and to your target audience.

  • For example, you could write blog posts about the benefits of hypnotherapy for specific conditions or share success stories from past clients you've helped.

By offering valuable information, you not only demonstrate your expertise but also provide potential clients with a taste of what they can expect from your services.

Go Beyond Words

In addition to written content, you could also consider using other forms of media too. Your potential clients would probably enjoy watching videos demonstrating different hypnotherapy techniques or listening to a podcast featuring you sharing your insights.

By diversifying your content formats, you can cater to different learning preferences and engage a wider audience.

  • When creating content, it's important to focus on quality over quantity. While it's beneficial to publish new content regularly, make sure each piece provides genuine value to your audience.

By consistently creating high-quality content that offers value to your target audience, you can establish yourself as an authority in the field of hypnotherapy. This will not only attract more organic traffic to your website, but will also help you build trust and credibility with potential clients.

Tip #3. Put More 'Web' In Your Website

Just like a spider's web is neat and organized, and the spider can easily move across each strand going from one point to another, you want to make your website function the same way by using what's called internal linking.

  • 'Internal linking' is no more complex than what it sounds like - it's linking from one page of your website to another.

Utilizing strategic internal linking is a crucial aspect of optimizing your website for search engines and improving user experience. By linking relevant pages on your website, you can guide both visitors and search engine crawlers through your content in a logical and organized manner.

One of the key benefits of internal linking is that it improves user experience. When visitors come to your website, they should be able to easily navigate through different pages and find the information they are looking for. By including internal links within your content, you can direct users to related articles, guides, or services that are relevant to their interests or queries.

This not only helps them find what they need but also encourages them to spend more time on your site (which is also a good thing for SEO).

Internal linking also helps search engines understand the structure of your website. Search engine crawlers follow links from one page to another, indexing the content along the way. By strategically interlinking relevant pages, you provide search engines with clear pathways to follow and ensure that all important pages are discovered and indexed.

All in all, internal linking is very important to making sure your website shows up high in the search results.

Tip #4. Make Sure Your Website Is Fast!

A slow-loading website leads to high bounce rates, which means people just leave your site before it loads. This is bad for obvious reasons.

To make sure your website loads quickly for everyone, there are a few steps you can take.

Step 1: Optimize Images

Firstly, optimizing images can dramatically reduce your page load times. Large image files load slowly, so it's important to compress and resize images without compromising their quality.

  • Try to save images as .jpg instead of .png when possible.

  • Try to size them to the exact size that you need them to display at.

  • I use this free tool to optimize images quickly: https://squoosh.app/

Step 2: Optimize Code

Now, this may not apply to you, but bloated code on your website will also make your site load slower. (If you're not sure if you've got bloated code, get in touch.)

Optimizing code involves removing unnecessary characters, spaces, and line breaks from your HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files. Cleaning up your code not only reduces file sizes but also enables browsers to process the code more quickly.

  • Pro tip: ask ChatGPT to clean up your code for you.

Step 3: Cache is King

Cache is kind of like memory, and there are some caching techniques that can really improve your website's performance.

  • One thing you can do is to make sure browser caching on your website is enabled, so that returning visitors can load the site faster as their browsers will retrieve certain elements from the cache rather than downloading them again.

  • Another thing is implementing Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) for optimizing site loading speed. Using a CDN is kind of like taking small copies of your website and spreading them around the world to servers in different geographic locations...

  • So that when a user accesses your website, the CDN serves the content from the server closest to their location, reducing lag and improving loading times.

I understand that some of these steps may be a bit technical. However, taking the time to optimize your site loading speed not only impacts your search engine rankings, it also can provide a much better browsing experience for visitors to your hypnotherapy website.

Tip #5. Don't Underestimate Social Media

I'll start by saying you DO NOT need to become a social media influencer to use social media for getting hypnotherapy clients... so don't skip this tip.

Let's simplify it down -

  • How do you grow your business? You get people to pay you for your services...

  • Where do you find these people? Wherever your target audience hangs out, including social media...

  • How do you get their attention so that you can make them an offer? Well, here's where you have to make a decision...

  • Bottom line: Somehow, someway, you need to start getting in front of more people and having more conversations.

You could put an ad in the local papers, or you could build partnerships with other local business owners, or you could host events and workshops, or you could just go on social media and start connecting with people right away for free. (I recommend you do all of these btw.)

Social media was basically designed to help you connect directly with your target audience. After all, what is the goal of platforms like Facebook and TikTok? To keep people on their platforms for as long as possible, and they do that by showing them content that they are interested in.

As a hypnotherapist, you can use this to your advantage and start doing things that will attract more potential clients and promote your services.

  1. First, just setup some profiles on the popular social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. You can start with just one, and always include a link back to your website.

  2. Share content that you think your target audience would find valuable. This can include informative blog posts, articles, videos, or even live Q&A sessions where you can address common questions or concerns related to hypnotherapy.

  3. Be consistent and focus on providing valuable content, not the number of likes or views your posts get. By doing this consistently, over time you position yourself as an authority in your field and you'll build trust with potential clients.

  4. Engagement is key. Respond to all comments and messages as quickly as possible, which shows that you value your audience's input and are dedicated to providing excellent customer service.

  5. Join groups your target audience is already hanging out in and start engaging. (What other interests or hobbies do they have?) Comment on other people's posts and answer any questions you come across, always trying to add value.

When you get active on social media, you start creating momentum. By regularly taking the above actions, you'll start to get noticed and people will reach out to you to learn more about what you do.

To make the most of social media for SEO purposes, it is important to optimize your profiles and posts for relevant keywords (remember Tip #1?) and to link back to your website often (see Tip #9).

You can see the powerful potential social media has for growing your business and helping you attract more hypnotherapy clients.

Tip #6. Start Collecting (More) Online Reviews

Have you ever collected anything in your life hoping it would become super valuable one day? Trading cards, beanie babies, Fabergé eggs..? Unfortunately, most of these items become nothing more than worthless.

Well, I recommend you get in the habit of collecting online reviews, which is something that becomes exponentially more valuable over time, and you don't have to invest any money to obtain them.

Plus, encouraging existing clients to give you online reviews is a crucial aspect of any SEO strategy for hypnotherapists looking to attract more clients.

Positive reviews:

  • Serve as powerful social proof, showing people that you helped others and can also help them.

  • Boost your credibility and reputation, positioning you as a trusted practitioner.

  • Significantly impact the decision-making process of potential clients, usually pushing them over the edge to choose you over your competition.

To encourage online reviews, follow these steps:

Step 1: Do Good Work

This is obvious, but start by providing exceptional service to your clients. Delivering outstanding results and ensuring a positive experience will naturally motivate clients to share their feedback.

Step 2: Make It Easy

Make it easy for clients to leave reviews by providing clear instructions on various platforms where they can share their experiences. Platforms like Google My Business and Facebook are popular review sites that potential clients frequently visit when searching for hypnotherapy services. (We can help you set this up if you like.)

Step 3: ASK!

You're much more likely to get a review if you simply ask. Use the law of reciprocity to your advantage and ask your clients to share their experience online after a successful session or any time they are expressing gratitude towards you.

Step 4: Incentivize Them

Consider offering discounts or special promotions for those who take the time to write a review. This not only encourages participation but also shows appreciation for their support.

Step 5: Respond

Responding to all reviews, whether positive or negative, is essential in building trust and maintaining transparency with potential clients. Take the time to thank those who leave positive feedback and address any concerns raised in negative reviews promptly and professionally.

  • I know I don't have to tell you this, but authenticity is key when it comes to online reviews. Avoid posting fake or misleading reviews as this can have severe consequences on your reputation and search engine rankings.

By actively encouraging online reviews from satisfied clients, you not only boost your credibility but also create a strong online presence that attracts more potential clients. Implementing this strategy as part of your overall SEO efforts will help establish yourself as an authority in the field of hypnotherapy and attract a steady stream of new clients.

Tip #7. Show Up In Local Search

How many times have you searched for something on Google using "...near me" because you were looking for a local business?

Even if you only offer online sessions, if you want to attract more clients as a hypnotherapist, it's crucial to optimize your website for local search. By implementing effective local SEO strategies, you can increase your online visibility and reach the right audience in your area.

Here are some key steps to optimize for local search:

  1. Include your location in website content and meta tags: Incorporating your city or state into your website's content and meta tags helps search engines understand where you are located and improves your chances of appearing in local search results.

  2. Create a Google My Business profile: Google My Business is a free tool that allows you to manage your business's online presence across Google Search and Maps. By creating a profile for your hypnotherapy practice, you can provide important information such as your address, phone number, business hours, and website URL. This not only helps potential clients find you easily but also boosts your visibility in local search results.

These strategies will help boost your online visibility within your local community and attract more clients seeking hypnotherapy services in your area.

Tip #8. Get Your On-Page SEO On-Point

See what I did there...?

Moving on, "what is on-page SEO" you ask?

  • 'On-page SEO' simply refers to optimizing the elements that are on your website pages.

By strategically writing title tags, meta descriptions, headers, and image alt text using relevant keywords, you can increase the chances of your website ranking higher in search engine results.

Title Tags

Title tags are the titles of your pages, and they play a large role in on-page SEO as they provide a description of the content on each page to the search engines. It's important to include relevant keywords in your title tags that accurately reflect the page's topic. This helps search engines understand the context of your content and improves the chances of that page showing up when someone searches.

Meta Descriptions

Meta descriptions are the snippets of text that are shown when your page link is shared, and show users what they can expect to see when they click. (Have you ever pasted a link into a Facebook post and saw the image and text for that page automatically pop up? That's the meta description.)

By using targeted keywords in your meta descriptions, you can entice potential clients to visit your site by giving them with a preview of what they'll find.

Headers

Headers are the actual headings on your pages and use the header tags (H1, H2, etc.). They help organize and structure your content, provide an opportunity to include relevant keywords, and signal to search engines the topic of your page.

Image Alt Text

Every image on a page has alt text, which describes what is in the image. It provides alternative information about images for visually impaired users or instances where images cannot be displayed. Including descriptive alt text with relevant keywords helps search engines understand the context of the image and improves its visibility in image searches.

These are very effective SEO techniques for your website that will enhance its visibility and attract more organic traffic from potential clients seeking hypnotherapy services.

Tip #9. Get More Backlinks

  • 'Backlinks' (also known as inbound links) are links from other websites that point to your website.

These links act as a "vote of confidence" in the eyes of search engines, indicating that your website is trustworthy and authoritative. As a hypnotherapist looking to attract more clients, it's crucial to focus on building high-quality backlinks from relevant and authoritative sources.

The easiest way to get backlinks is to post content on social media and link back to your website. While these aren't the highest-quality backlinks, they are still valuable and help to boost your website authority.

Another effective way to earn backlinks is to ask other website owners for them.

Go to relevant websites in your industry or niche, find their contact information, and reach out to the website owner. Identify websites that have a strong online presence and align with your target audience, such as health and wellness blogs, directories for alternative therapies, or local business listings for hypnotherapy services.

Once you've identified these websites, consider offering to contribute guest posts or collaborate on content.

Guest posting involves writing an article or blog post for another website in exchange for a link back to your own site. This not only helps you establish yourself as an expert in your field but also allows you to showcase your knowledge and provide valuable information to a wider audience.

When approaching other website owners, make sure to personalize your outreach emails and highlight the unique value you can offer their readership. Explain why their audience would benefit from hearing your perspective and include examples of previous work or testimonials if possible.

In addition to guest posting, you can also collaborate with influencers or industry experts on joint projects such as webinars or podcasts. By associating yourself with well-known figures in your field, you can increase your chances of attracting backlinks from their websites or social media profiles.

Search engines like Google consider the quality and relevance of backlinks when determining how trustworthy a website is. So, when reputable sources link to your site, it signals to search engines that your content is valuable and deserving of higher visibility.

Remember, building backlinks takes time and effort. It's important to focus on quality rather than quantity. A few high-quality backlinks from reputable sources will have a much greater impact on your SEO efforts than numerous low-quality links.
